Yes this happened in our neighborhood. I guess I could dramatize it and tell you that we almost die. I suppose it could have gone worse than it did. It honestly felt like I was sitting in the middle of a cops episode. I would know....I really like watching cops. Earlier in the day before all of this there were a few cop cars our in front of our house with assault rifles pointed at a house that was two down from ours. I was only a little nervous but I was more excited, I mean I was watching a cops episode from my window. Ha Ha...it sounds a little ridiculous now. Paul kept telling me to stay away from the windows and not to walk outside.
More and more cops showed up, Paul counted up to thirty cars. Then the swat team showed up. This is when I started to stress out. Why the swat team? What did this guy do? They set up a couple command centers while Paul and I stressed out about whether or not we would be evacuated and made cookies. We were hoping to go to a ward Christmas Party. The hope dissolved when they taped everything off. We knew then we weren't going anywhere. The swat tean evacuated everyone in our area of the neighborhood but us, because we weren't in the direct line of fire. We were stuck for several hours.
We found out after the fact that there was a guy wandering around talking to himself like he was crazy and shot off a few rounds and then went inside his house. Not too long after that the cops showed up with a mega phone. His wife and children came out not too long after that, but he insisted on holding down the fort for a few more hours. I'm guessing he didn't want to go to jail....
I don't know much beyond that, but I have to wonder was all this necessary for this one dude? I guess he did have two guns.
