Both Paul and I ended up with colds for several days. It was more annoying than anything. I have a really hard time resting when I'm sick. I've got better things to do than lay in bed all day. I might miss out on something amazing. Besides, when were both sick and the dishes pile up and the house is a wreck...I can't do it.
Luckily my greatest friend came to save me and brought her famous chicken and rice soup. It was like magic, after days of not being able to kick this sickness the very next day I was so much better! Audrey was so happy because Halloween was getting near and she didn't want to miss the trick or treating after missing our church party and the trunk or treat.
That afternoon we made Halloween cupcakes and then we carved pumpkins. I love carving pumpkins. I don't know what it is...maybe the satisfaction of lighting it up when your done. It's almost like decorating a Christmas tree.
When it came time for treat or treating Audrey decided she didn't want to be Izzy the pirate, she wanted to be a fairy. So we pulled together some last minute stuff from her dress-ups and her closet and she went as a fairy. I'm convinced that we have the best neighborhood to trick or treat in. We went down a street and a half and Audrey far more than I got as a child walking around the block. It's good thing because she was done after that. Wear plastic princess shoes can be hard on the feet. I still have candy coming out my ears. It may last until next Halloween.
This year we started a new tradition. Pumpkin smashing. The day after Halloween we took our pumpkins out to the driveway and threw them until there was nothing left. Audrey had so much fun that she didn't mind picking up the pieces afterward. :) My curiosity was satisfied. I always wondered why teenagers went around pumpkin smashing after Halloween. Now I know. :) If you haven't done it yet, you should probably try it out. Happy Halloween!
